Brief Introduction

 

I. Main Content

Figures in this chapter show the basic situation of development of transport, post and telecommunication in Beijing.

Transportation statistics include the number of lines, mileage, total volume of transport, turnover and main technological and economic indicators (excluding pipelines) for four transport modes, i.e. railway, highway, civil aviation, and pipeline,; and number of motor vehicles.

Post and telecommunication statistics include: performance of post and telecom services, development level of post and telecommunication sector, and so on.

II. Scope of Survey and Source of Data

1. Data on railways: including the operation of national railways, excluding local railways, railways built by joint ventures, military railways, and dedicated lines and railways built by factories, mines, enterprises and public institutions. These data are from Beijing Railway Bureau.  

2. Data on highways: (1) highway mileage covers highways open to traffic at the year end, excluding those under construction and not put into use; (2) highway transport statistics cover all enterprises and public institutions as well as individuals (including self-employed) registered in Beijing for highway cargo transportation. These data are from Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.

3. Data on pipeline transport: including the length, capacity and completed traffic of pipelines for transport of crude oil, refined oil, natural gas, and other gases. These data are mainly from Beijing Natural Gas Pipelines Co., Ltd. of Sinopec and CNPC. Statistical data on the pipelines transportation business affiliated to Beijing Yanshan Branch were collected and reviewed by the two corporations mentioned above respectively.

4. Data on civil aviation: excluding non-local and foreign airlines flying and operating in Beijing. Statistics consist of the number, mileage, and traffic volume of regular flight lines for domestic transport, transport from and to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and international transport. Data for 2009 and earlier are sourced from Air China and Xinhua Airline; from 2010, from corporate entities of civil aviation transport in Beijing area.

5. Data on post and telecommunication: including those on postal and telecom services offered by post and telecom operators, excluding data on services of dedicated networks. Business volume falls into two categories, namely postal service and telecommunication service. Data are mainly sourced from Beijing Post and Telecom Company, Beijing Branch of China Unicom, China Mobile Beijing Company, Beijing Branch of China Tietong, and Beijing Branch of China Telecom.

6. Data on number of civil automobiles: civil automobiles refer to all vehicles registered with traffic administration and granted license plates. In terms of automobile structure, civil automobiles consist of passenger automobiles, cargo automobiles, and so on; in terms of ownership, they include private and company ones. These data are sourced from Beijing Traffic Management Bureau.
