I. Main Content

Data in this chapter reflect the situation of scientific and technological activities and patents, R&D personnel, R&D funds, R&D projects (tasks), research institutions, basic information on R&D of industrial enterprises above the designated size, basic information on R&D of information transmission, software and information technology service enterprises, scientific and technological activities of colleges and universities, R&D of research institutions and personnel, patent application and licensing, etc.

II. Scope of Statistics

Included in this chapter are the corporate entities in sectors with relatively intensive R&D activities in national economy, such as agriculture, forestry, animal production and hunting, fishing, mining, manufacturing, generation and distribution of electricity, heating, gas and water, construction, transport, storage and post, scientific research and development, technology services, information transmission, software and information technology services, finance, renting and leasing activities and business services, management of water conservancy, environment and public facilities, education, healthcare and social works, culture, sports and entertainment, public administration, social security and social organizations, etc.

III. Source of Data

Data in this chapter are from Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, Beijing Intellectual Property Bureau, Beijing Municipal Association of Science and Technology, and Beijing Technical Market Management Office, etc.

IV. Changes in Relevant Statistical Standards

(I) Classification of Sectors. According to relevant provisions of National Bureau of Statistics, the Standard for Classification of National Economic Sectors (GB/T4754-2011) became effective in 2012.

(II) Classification of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Industries. According to the Provision of Classification of Three Industries (G.T.Z. [2012] No. 108) issued by National Bureau of Statistics, the scope of three industries has changed. The primary industry includes agriculture, forestry, animal production and hunting, fishing (excluding agricultural, forestry, animal production and hunting, fishing services); the secondary industry includes mining (excluding mining support activities), manufacturing (excluding metal products, machinery and equipment repairing), production and distribution of electricity, heating, natural gas and water and construction industry; the tertiary industry means industries other than the primary and secondary industries. The Provisions of Classification of Three Industries (G.T.Z. [2012] No. 108) came into effect in 2012.

(III) High-tech Manufacturing. According to the Circular of National Bureau of Statistics on Printing and Issuing the Classification of High-tech Industry (Manufacturing) 2013 (G.T.Z. [2013] No. 55). This Classification is revised on the basis of Classified Catalog of High-tech Industry Statistics (G.T.Z. [2002] No. 33), following the structure of the original classification. The standard has been put in place since 2013.
